Why would I create a site like this?  Well, unfortunately I’ve experienced sun cancer.  Here’s my story …

When my father started having “little” (as he called them) sun cancers removed, I started going to a dermatologist for check-ups. When the pathology report came back with a basal cell carcinoma diagnosis from the removal of an irregular red spot (about one-quarter the size of the end of my little finger) from the front of my left leg a few inches above the ankle, I thought “no big deal.” Unless advanced, basal cell carcinoma is the easiest cancer to treat, right? But it changed my life.

The excision site took a long time to heal (not a lot of blood in that part of the leg, which slows healing) and I watched it carefully. An ugly process as far as I was concerned.

At the post-operative check-up, the doctor was pleased but said if anything redness returned, to let them know. So far, so good.

Since then I have had a number of spots removed from my body and my face. Some of those on my face have been “pre-cancerous” squamous cell lesions as a number of my father’s were. My face, however, has a number of subtle (I hope) scars. Vanity and health converged.

I began to look for products that would protect my skin from that wonderful star that gives life to our planet and causes skin cancer. Wow, that turned out to be a big job – and except in the depths of winter, a body seems to have a huge exposed skin surface. Any place the sun’s rays can reach can become a skin cancer site.

I grew up in Georgia but have spent most of my adult life in New Jersey. Being comfortable in the New Jersey winters for me, with my thin Southern blood, has always been complicated process in which I have to put on enough (but not too many) layers to keep warm, make sure I have the right socks and gloves, ear muffs, etc., etc., and so forth. Starting in the Spring, though, I could just go out the door carefree into The World. It was SO much easier to get out the door in the Spring, Summer, and Fall.

No longer. After the basal cell carcinoma, every time I go out the door, I should be protected from the sun exposure I will encounter that day. I began to feel that my sun sensitivity had made the summer as arduous and time-consuming as winter.

There are actually lots of sun protection products – but usually they are a small number of items hidden away within a much larger product line. To find what you want when you want it, requires research, knowledge, time (often not available!) and experience. I fantasized- about a single source where I could find a comprehensive, wide range of products from which I could easily assemble my armor against sun and regain my carefree warm months’ life style. Since I couldn’t find it, I decided to create it.

On this website, we will provide access to a wide range of sun protection products for children, men, and women – sun screens, sun blocks, cosmetics, clothes, hats, swim wear, — as well as keep up with the recent developments in skin protection, skin cancer and related areas.  We hope you enjoy the site!  Please feel free to send us a note with any products you’ve found helpful.  Also, feel free to share your sun cancer story as well.

Be Safe.
